Why you NEED more than 1200 calories - Dee Gautham

I’m not sure where this magic ‘1200 calorie’ myth came from — but most women need to eat much more than this EVEN IF your goal is fat loss.

Yes — Even if you don’t workout. Even if you think your metabolism is slow. Under-eating is only going to slow it down further.
.
Because if your calories are too low?
.
✖️Your body will slow down to adapt to less energy. Your metabolism will get wrecked, and you will start plateauing in weight.
.
✖️You will get extremely hungry and have increased risk of binging/ overeating/ cravings.
.
✖️You may start to gain weight, not lose it.
.
.
If fat loss is your goal, you actually want to start your cut on as many calories as possible, to ensure your metabolism stays high & give you room to drop if you plateau out.

There are only two RARE occasions when it would make sense to put a client on a 1200 calorie diet. These include:
.
(1) If you are VERY petite to begin with, and are almost totally sedentary OR (2) Towards the very end of a competition prep after you have already dieted down to that level and if you have a safe post-comp plan to stabilize your body.

You. Need. To. Eat. More. Than. This.

Everyone’s exact calorie needs will vary and there is no “magic number” for anyone. I have had clients who diet on 1600 and clients diet on 2400. Yes – really! Everyone’s body is different and there is NO one size fits all approach to nutrition.

In general:
.
✅ Don’t cut out food groups (ie- carbs). Your body needs these!
✅ If you’re tracking macros, you need to figure out what levels works for you and what you are seeing results on without feeling too hungry. Try a “trial period” of two weeks and see how you feel.
✅ If fat loss is your goal, stay consistent with a moderate deficit. Not an extreme one that you’re inconsistent on.
✅ Get a coach that won’t starve you 😉
