Understanding Marketing - Dee Gautham

The whole point of marketing is to highlight the gap between where you are and where you could be… and create a product that helps you bridge that gap.
.
The bigger the gap, the more unrealistic it is… the deeper the pain you will feel. The more you will pay to alleviate this gap.
.
👉 Sex sells. And we’ve been led to believe that the objectification of the female body leads to sex.

And humans are primal – we buy on emotions, not logic.
.
As long as the media continues to perpetuate the belief that “You can only reach certain emotions (sexy, happy, confident) IF you have a certain body type” … women will continue to internalize that false message as their truth.
.
SO. How do we, as a society, combat this?
.
👉 There will always be an aspirational standard used in marketing, based in sex.
.
👉This standard will always be changing as people catch up to it.
.
🤔 And honestly? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a highly aspirational standard to use in marketing. 👉 I think it’s fine IF the standard is based in truth, not something literally made up in someone’s head.
.

AND – If the standard does not rely on objectifying women’s bodies.

The standard must change from “you need to be skinny to be sexy” to “you need to be confident in yourself and an individual to be sexy.” We collectively need to associate these things with “sexiness” and find something else to be “sexy” than a woman’s body (what exactly, I don’t know, but I”m just thinking out loud here)
.
Standards need to change from the top down, 👇but will only be DRIVEN to change from the bottom up.☝️
.
Aka – Education around how marketing works. The body positivity movement.
.
With fitness – tune out the noise and focus how you FEEL in your body above all else.
.
If the media did not exist, if you hadn’t been shamed or teased about your body as a kid, how would you feel about it? Would you really care to drop the “stubborn fat”? Or are you just doing that because you are insecure?
.
In some instances – yes. Fat loss may make you feel more energized and healthy. That’s great. But feeling insecure in your body along the way is not a requirement.
.
When you start to feel hatred towards your body ask, “who profits from me being insecure?”
.
Soon you will realize it’s all a marketing game that everyone around you has bought into. You can distance yourself from being “IN” it, to viewing it objectively as an outsider to it…
