The satisfaction principle - Dee Gautham

 

When I was 14… I restricted my food so hard that I lost my period.

My doctor said I couldn’t play sports until I got it back. SO, my mom dragged me to a nutritionist to learn what “healthy eating” really was.

This nutritionist taught me a crazy lesson—
.
She made me eat balanced meals, but also what she called a “FUN FOOD” at every meal.
.
“Fun foods” included something like a snickers, a piece of chocolate 🍫, etc.
.
I was shocked. A dietician was telling me to eat snickers..?
.
I was too scared to eat real chocolate, so instead I ate chocolate protein bars (which I considered “fun foods” at the time)🤦🏽‍♀️
.
It wasn’t until later when I studied nutrition, that I learned the rationale for this—
.
>> THE SATISFACTION PRINCIPLE <<
.
When you eat what you actually WANT and truly experience the pleasure of a meal… You feel deep satisfaction.
.
👉 And that makes it much easier to stop 🛑 eating when you’re actually full.
.
This is the reason French women remain slim, and Italians don’t have as high obesity rates as us.
.
BUT: When you eat dry chicken and broccoli 🥦, salads with no dressing, toast with no butter…. like “diet culture” in America tells you…
.
…You’re left the meal feeling emptier than you started.
.
SO, you come home at night and rummage through the pantry when no one’s looking…
.
Searching…
.
For something – ANYTHING – to give your mind the satisfaction it needs.
.
And then?? 👉 You end up binging.
.
And you GAIN weight instead of lose it.🤷🏽‍♀️
.
In order to feel truly satisfied after a meal—
.
You need the meal to be satisfying.
.
Add fats. Cheese. Dressing. Carbs.
.
Not too much. But the sweet spot where you feel satiated and aren’t left craving MORE after the meal.
.
Worried you’ll gain weight if you do this? 👉 You won’t. Especially if your overall calories/ macros are balanced and you don’t emotionally eat.
.
Once you learn how to LISTEN to your body, balance your nutrition, and have a healthy relationship with food…
.
You’re going to look and feel PHENOMENAL in your body ❤️
